Mrs. Joyce A. Landers' Obituary
Mabel Joyce Landers of Houston, Texas, passed away on Oct. 3, 2018, at the age of 85. She was born July 7, 1933, in Joaquin, Texas, to Willie Joseph and Mellie Evelyn Taylor Anderson.
When Joyce was 16, she met David Earl Landers at a midnight show in Houston. She thought he was the most handsome man she’d ever met, and they were married in 1950. Joyce and David raised five children together, and their love for children helped in their decision to foster 19 babies over a three-year period. They built a pink brick home filled with love, laughter and creativity.
In 1968, Joyce cofounded an answering service that continues to this day as Westpark Communications. Joyce and David later traveled the world and were married for 50 years. She was her happiest dancing, enjoying good food, and spending time with friends and family. Joyce was also a prolific letter writer and was known for her wisdom, her humor, her memory and her kindness.
She is remembered by her sisters Edna Wesneski and her husband Al of Houston, Patsy Harrison of Spring; her son David Earl Landers Jr. and wife Dolores of Las Vegas, Nev.; son Dean and wife Cathy Landers of Montgomery; daughter Cynthia and husband Gary Tucker of Sugar Land; son Doug and wife Deborha Landers of Richmond; and daughter Sheila and husband Walter Jamar of Bellville; and her grandchildren Travis and Ryan Landers; Sarah, Courtney and Meredith Tucker; Cody Landers and Audra and Marcus Woodings; and Erin and Stephen Zabel, Lauren and Michael Bates, and Carrie, Jacob, Rebecca and Abigail Jamar, as well as great-grandchildren Daisy, Frederick, Rex, Vaughn, Devin, Sean, Darby, Elizabeth and JR; and countless nieces, nephews and friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother, Charles Anderson. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. All services will be held at South Park Funeral Home, 1310 N. Main St., Pearland, Texas 77581.
