Joseph C Thomas' Obituary
Joseph Thomas Chackupurackel, lovingly called “Jaimon,” was born in Vakathanam, India, in 1959 to C.T. Thomas and Aleyamma Chackupurackel. He spent his childhood and early adulthood roaming the town of Vakathanam – making friends, telling jokes, and pulling the occasional prank. Depending on the day, he might even jokingly tell you he spent his summers in England, where his father was the Indian Ambassador to the United Kingdom!
In 1984, he left his beloved Vakathanam to settle in the United States. He enjoyed the American bachelor life for a few years, during which his passion for wrestling and horror movies began.
In 1987, his path crossed with the beautiful Mary “Philo” Mannathikuzhiyil, and they married in February of that year in Houston, Texas at Holy Family Catholic Church. Together, they began their journey as a family, welcoming their son, David, in 1988 and their daughter, Tiffany, in 1991. He was a devoted family man, working hard to achieve the American Dream. He worked as a Pharmacy Technician for 30 years and retired from the Richmond State School in 2023.
In 2018, the family grew when Tiffany married Shawn Vettickal, whom Jaimon welcomed with open arms. But his favorite additions were his granddaughter, Sophia, and grandson, Isaac. He adored them, and his love for them was evident in every way.
Jaimon was a simple man who loved the little things in life—gardening, fishing, a good meal (his favorite being kappa erachi), traveling the world, and, more than anything, spending time with the people he loved, both family and friends. He had an amazing memory; while most people grow more forgetful with age, Jaimon’s ability to recall details amazed everyone around him. He loved sharing stories from his childhood and could sit with any group, regardless of age, and bring a smile to their faces.
He is predeceased by: C.T. Thomas and Aleyamma Thomas (Parents), Thomas and Annamma Mannathikuzhiyil (In-laws)
