Jonathan Edward Gourrier's Obituary
Jonathan Edward Gourrier, affectionately known as “Johnny G,” passed away on November 11, 2024.
He attended schools in Galveston, Texas, graduating from Ball High School. Honoring his parents’ deep involvement in music, Johnny played the clarinet in the school band and sang in the church choir.
Johnny’s young adulthood journey began at Southern University, before he continued his studies at Texas Southern University and the University of Houston. Following the legacy of his grandfather, mother, and brother, Johnny proudly served his country in the Armed Forces. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged, carrying on his family’s tradition of dedication and service.
After his military service, Johnny found his calling as a passionate advocate for recovery. Through his work with Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), and Cocaine Anonymous (CA), he became a guiding light for countless individuals seeking healing and hope. His tireless work in the 12-step programs helped guide countless individuals on their own paths to recovery. His story of personal transformation was one of hope and resilience, and he was a beacon of support for others facing struggles.
Johnny lived with a zest for life that was contagious. He had a deep love for food, music, and, most of all, travel. He was always eager to explore new places, often saying that he just wanted to "get away" and see the world. His infectious laughter and vibrant personality made every moment shared with him memorable. His belief in living life fully and embracing each adventure was felt by everyone who knew him.
Johnny’s life was rooted in love, service, and family. Johnny is survived by his wife, father, daughter, siblings, grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Johnny’s family was his pride and joy.
Johnny’s legacy will be remembered not only in the love he gave but in the countless lives he touched through his compassion, support, humor, and the strength of his spirit. Rest in peace, Johnny G. You will be forever loved and never forgotten.
A visitation will be held on Friday at South Park Funeral Home at 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. A graveside service will take place at Houston National Cemetery at 2:15 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice that supports addiction recovery.
