Mr John Bryan Smith's Obituary
John Bryan Smith, 85, of Deer Park, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2015. He was born on September 11, 1929 in Tye, Texas to John B. and Gracie (Mauoin) Smith. As a teenager John worked in a radio shop, repairing radios and learning to work on televisions, a new invention back then. He served in the US Army where he was a radar instructor. When he and Mary Jo married they attended a Methodist Church and raised their 3 children in that faith. John was interested in sports and was involved coaching his sons in Little League. He also enjoyed watching his grandsons as they developed their skills in baseball. John and Nancy were married in June 1993 and started their flag car service, Highway Escort, Inc during the same month. Over the last 21 years many people worked full time and part time for the company. One of John's greatest joys was working the breakfast kitchen for pastor/missionary convocations at Elim Church. While talking with the missionaries he began working on their projects also. In recent years, he slowed from volunteering but still found time to work for the security room for the Church. He was quick to respond to concerns and reported them quickly. He will be missed for the special person he was. He was preceded in death his first wife, Mary Jo; He is survived by his current wife, Nancy; children, Fred Smith and wife Gennie, Lonnie Smith and wife Karen, daughter, Susan Heil; grandchildren, Colten, Hunter, Holly, Bryan and Brandie.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Elim Church Missions Fund, 3200 S. Richey Rd. Houston, TX. 77017
