John M. Salazar – May 6, 1934 – May 26, 2024
John passed away peacefully on May 26, 2024 at the age of 90. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
John was born May 6, 1934 in Cuero, TX to Pasqual Salazar and Victoria Mireles Salazar. He spent his early life in Cuero where he met his devoted wife of 72 years, Lupe, and they were married in 1952. They spent the early years of their marriage in Victoria, TX, where they had three children, Gloria Ann, Gilda Amy, and Johnny Ray. They then moved to Houston, TX in 1966 where John worked at WKM/Cooper Cameron for 32 years as a machinist. He was a hard-working family man who spent his life loving and providing for his family. He was a devoted member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Missouri City, TX. He was a devout, caring man who believed strongly in Christian values. He was an enthusiastic fan of Western movies. He was civic-minded, and in his later years, he and his wife volunteered as election poll workers. Every morning, he would faithfully feed the squirrels and birds in his backyard. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, including his grand-children and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Pasqual Salazar and Victoria Mireles Salazar, his daughter, Gilda Herrera, his grandson, Gustavo Alejandro Herrera, and his 14 siblings.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lupe; his daughter, Gloria and husband Ken Hodge of Durant, OK; his son, Johnny Ray and wife Diana Salazar of Magnolia, TX; his son-in-law José Gustavo Herrera of Houston, TX; his granddaughters: Liberty Alexia Tellez, Alexis Monique Herrera, Victoria Rae Salazar, Angela Renee Salazar, Amanda Dawn Dubowski; his grandson, Zachary John Herrera; and his great-grandchildren, Alexia Tellez, José Luis Tellez, and Madison Tellez.
