John Resendez III's Obituary
John(Johnny) Resendez III, 69, passed away Monday, November 7, 2022 in Houston, Texas. Johnny was born May 1,1953 to John and Ofelia Resendez in Victoria, Texas, the oldest of seven children. He graduated from James Madison High School.
Johnny served as U.S. Marine from 1970- 1973. When he returned, he married his high school sweetheart Esmeralda (Lala). They were married for 49 years.
In 1978, Johnny began his lifetime career in the Houston Fire Department as a firefighter. After 30 years in the fire department, he retired in February 2009. He also served as a peace officer for over 20 years in the Houston Area. In fact, he retired from Metro Police 2005 only to come out of retirement in February 2020. Sadly, his second term with Metro was short lived. That summer is when we found out he had cancer. Johnny enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He and Lala traveled with their daughters and families any chance they could. He was a thrill-seeking Popo always up for a challenge or out to seek new adventures. The girls, sons in law and grandkids have plenty of fond memories and stories of their own to share.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Lala; daughters, Rosie (Matt) Davis, Michelle Resendez, Lisa (Donald) Vigil, Jennifer (Valentin) Bernal, Jessica (Ric) Mendiola; grandchildren, Mattie & Mateo Davis, Mia Marquez, Lily Vitrella, Donald John Vigil, Trae & Rylee Bernal and Danielle & Hailey Mendiola; Great granddaughter, Jonnie Lopez; brother, Alfred Resendez; sisters, Patsy Almaguer, Mary Resendez, Esther Chavez; and numerous nieces and nephews. Johnny was preceded in death by his father John Resendez, and twin brothers, Rudy & Ralph Resendez.
