Captian John Scott Pixley's Obituary
Captain John Scott Pixley won his battle with bile duct cancer on July 2nd, 2010, at home in Friendswood, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. Cpt. Pixley was born on August 21st, 1962, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to parents Bobby R and Patricia (Adams) Pixley. On August 15th, 1998, he married Kathryn L. Ellis in Ponca City, OK. Cpt. Pixley was a graduate of Sentinel High School in 1980 and obtained his degree in Business Marketing from NSU of Tahlequah, OK, in 1992. He became a Boy Scout Executive for McAlester area and later in Ponca City, OK, where he was also a member of the Lions Club. He was a Youth Minister for Faith United Methodist in Tulsa, OK, where he made many life-long friends. He taught 6th-8th grade history, science and Spanish in Broken Arrow Public schools from 2002-2004. He joined the Army Reserves in 1995, as a non-commissioned officer in the 486th Civil Affairs Battalion in Broken Arrow, OK. He became a commissioned officer in 1999 and enlisted for Active Duty in 2004. In 2008 he and his family were transferred to San Antonio, TX, where he served as Aide-de-Camp to Major General Jeffery Jacobs. His last duty assignment was with the 451st Civil Affairs Battalion in Pasadena, TX as the Operations Officer. His lifetime passions were following Chicago Cubs baseball, Dallas Cowboy football and riding along side his wife on his motorcycle.
Cpt. Pixley was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Bob R. Pixley, infant brother Robert Vic Pixley, grandparents Clifton and DeWilma (DeWeber) Adams, Orval and AnnaLee (Palmer) Pixley, and aunts Sue (Pixley) Anders and Barbara (Smart) Adams, and uncle John Earl Adams.
Survivors include wife Kathryn (Ellis) Pixley, son Jonathan T. Pixley, and daughter Samantha Kate Pixley, all of Broken Arrow, OK. His mother Patricia (Adams) Pixley, Tecumseh, OK, brother Mark R. Pixley Williams, AZ, sister and husband, Jennifer (Pixley) and Paul Myers of Moore, OK; mother in law, Jonette (Starks) Ellis, Enid, OK, father in law Pat & CoTee Ellis, Stillwater, OK; brother in laws , John Ellis of Charlotte, N.C. and Bradley and wife Janna Ellis, Hamden, CT; aunts Deanna Schmidt, Peggy Pixley both of Tulsa, OK, uncles Gary and Katy Adams, Lancaster, TX, Mike and Linda Adams, Moore, OK, David and Norma Pixley of Ft Smith, AR; seven nieces and three nephews who adored him, numerous cousins, family and friends. To know John was to love him. He loved all and loved well. He was adamant about his faith in God and his love for Him. His last journal entry ended simply with, "I love you Jesus." Services are Friday, July 9th at Faith United Methodist Church, 7431 East 91st Street, Tulsa, OK, at 11:00 a.m. There will Full Military Honors at Floral Havens, Veterans Field of Honor in Broken Arrow at 1:00 p.m. At 1:30 to 3:00p.m., family and friends will convene at the Family Center at Floral Haven Funeral Home.
