Dr. John C. McBride's Obituary
Dr. John Cecil McBride, M.D. went peacefully to be with the Lord at his home in Houston, Texas on Tuesday, January 24th, 2017. He was born on November 23rd, 1936 in Houston, Texas - the first of four children of Johnnie Cecil McBride and Leola Davis McBride. Dr. McBride began to display artistic talent at an early age. He excelled academically and after completing high school at 16, attended Howard University for two years. After returning to Houston, Dr. McBride enrolled at Texas Southern University and utilized his affinity for mathematics to teach calculus under the mentoring of the Head of the Mathematics Department. Upon graduating from Texas Southern University in 1965 with a Bachelor’s degree of Science, he went on to study medicine at Howard University Medical School, in Washington D.C., graduated in 1969 and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1974.
He returned home to Houston later that year and joined St. Joseph Hospital where he worked until 2014 as a staff physician, surgeon, clinical instructor and teaching faculty member. Dr. McBride had an exceptional work ethic and provided his highly-regarded services at Riverside General Hospital, Park Plaza Hospital, Bellaire Hospital, Northwest Memorial Hospital, The Methodist Hospital and through his private practice in Bellaire, Texas; serving patients from all walks of life.
For over 40 years Dr. McBride dedicated his life to medicine and serving others, was an advocate for women’s health, mentored budding doctors, and delivered innumerable children. His patients loved him and his colleagues respected him. On the day of his passing the Houston metropolitan area and the medical community suffered an enormous loss. He made the world a better place and will forever be missed.
Dr. McBride was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dr. Ernest Windrow McBride.
Dr. McBride is survived by his loving wife Lupe McBride and his five sons, Frailan, Floyd, Tristan, Abel and Corey; his sisters Joan McBride and Linda Wright, and loving nieces and nephews.
While his work is done, he will live on in the lives of those who knew him.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 3, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Southpark Funeral Home 1310 North Main St. Pearland, TX 77581. Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017 in the funeral home chapel.
