John Edwin Maynor's Obituary
John Edwin Maynor was born December 14, 1951 to Barbara Christofferson Maynor and Willie Dan Maynor at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. He passed away peacefully February 10, 2026 at the age of 74, at home with family members by his side.
John was a lifelong Pearland resident, graduating in 1970 from Pearland High School. He went to work out of high school at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company eventually becoming a lineman, when he had a fall off a ladder that broke his leg and subsequently losing that leg. He eventually retired with Southwestern Bell. He had a passion for the outdoors with fishing and hunting, so John didn’t let that stop him, still going fishing and elk-hunting with family and friends over the following years. He became like the “Eveready Bunny” to his doctors through the years. In 2023 he married Brenda. She was the greatest joy and love of his life, although short-lived. He will be so terribly missed by her and the rest of his family and many friends, as he kept in touch with some of his work companions and lifelong friends through the years. Anyone who ever knew John knew he had a big ‘ole heart.
He is preceded in death by his father, Willie Dan Maynor; his mother, Barbara Christofferson Maynor; and his sister, Diana Gunnels.
John is survived by his loving wife - Brenda Warren Maynor; sister, Carol “Cissie” Shifferly; Carol’s daughters - Barbie Shifferly (Tim Piper), Christy Gonzales (Omar), and Jenny Shifferly; as well as nieces and nephews - Ayla Gonzales, Chloe Gonzales, Derek Gonzales and Knox Sloan; and deceased sister Diana’s daughters Jill Eppinette (Clinton) and Julie Kurukji and their children.
Since he married Brenda, he was “adopted” into her big family with 2 children; Klayton Kilburn (Heather Compton) and Kayla Kilburn (Logan Pope) with bonus grandchildren of Aidan Kilburn and Solora Fournier, with an additional 4 sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Wanda Holland of Indiana; Marsha Warren Hartwig (David) of Lufkin, Texas; Joe Warren (Heather) of Burnet, Texas; Pam Warren Seiler (Tom) of Pearland, Texas; and Robin Warren Nesom of Buchanan Dam, Texas; as well as each one of these siblings’ children as new nieces and nephews. He just blended right in perfectly and was accepted and loved by all as if he had been there all along.
He was a giant of a man, a big ole bear with a big ole hug and big ole heart.
