Mr. John D. Cowart's Obituary
Mr. John D. Cowart, 85, of Pearland, TX passed away from this life on Saturday, May 16, 2015. He was born November 20, 1929 in Homerville, Georgia.
Mr. Cowart joined the US Navy when he was 18. He served his country with pride in the Korean Conflict earning the China Service Medal, Occupational Service Medal and Korean Service Medal. In addition to his Navy accomplishments he loved to tell his stories of being the Light Heavy Weight Boxing Champ of the Navy 7th Fleet 77th Task Force. After his honorable discharge he went on to become a Mortgage Banker in which he served for 20 years at several locations. Not really one for retirement he became the long time smiling face at Ally’s Gulf Station on highway 35 in Pearland. From there he served as a guard at the Texas Department of Corrections for 5 years. He has been a long time member in good standing at the C.F. Spencer Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years; Mary Ann Le Blanc Cowart, children; Robert Cowart and wife Bobbie, John L. Cowart and wife Kathy, daughter; Susan Bentley and husband Ted, grandchildren; Bobby Cowart(Jessi), Russell Cowart (Stephanie), Adam Cowart (Michelle), Matthew Cowart, Todd Bentley, Ryan Bentley, Rebecca Cowart and Christy Bentley, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 very special young ladies he considered his grandchildren; Hannah Lackey and Mary Hughes, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends Monday, May 18, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at SouthPark Funeral Home 1310 North Main St., Pearland, Texas 77581. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 12:30 PM in the funeral home chapel.
