Mrs. Joan Anita Jaeger Powell Maniag's Obituary
Joan Anita “Nita” Jaeger Powell Maniag, age 75, died on Monday, May 21, 2018, at her home In Houston, Texas, under the care of hospice. Joan was the third of eight children born on July 24, 1942 in Dubuque, Iowa, to Alvin A. and Mary Kathleen (Edwards) Jaeger. She was a 1960 graduate from St. Agnes Academy and attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Galveston, Texas. After obtaining her R.N. degree, Joan worked for several hospitals and visiting nurse services, before retiring from the Neurology Department at Kelsey Seybold Clinic in 2004.
Joan is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Richard Michael Maniag; her daughter, Deborah Ann (Powell) Cole of League City, Texas; her son, Jeffrey Martin and wife, Heather (Gray) Powell of Santa Fe, Texas; son, Kelly Lawrence Powell of League City, Texas; seven grandchildren, Madilynn Abigail, Garrett David and Ashleigh Grace Powell of Santa Fe, Texas; Daniel Neil Ronald and Denver Hall Powell of Orrington, Maine; Hannah Kathleen and Paige Elaine Powell of League City, Texas; her siblings, Mary K. Stetson, Claudia Dolezal and husband, Fred, Elizabeth Anthony, Thomas Jaeger, Clare Friedman and husband, Tom, and William Jaeger and wife, Kim, and eighteen nieces and nephews. In addition, she is survived by her former spouse and father of her children, Jerry Donald Powell. Joan is predeceased by her parents, her son, James Donald Powell, and her brother, John Anthony Jaeger.
Visitation will be Monday, May 28, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Southpark Funeral Home, 1310 North Main Street, Pearland, TX 77581. A Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Frank Fabj, will be Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 10727 Hartsook Street, Houston, TX 77034. Interment will follow at Southpark Cemetery, 1310 North Main Street, Pearland, TX 77581.
