My family and I have had the extreme pleasure of knowing Jo in her capacity as Elder's wife of the Clay Road Church of Christ. The congregation relocated to Langham Creek and I moved away. Upon my return to Houston, I was in great need of spiritual guidance, which Glenn & Jo Reed willingly offered. When one finds herself in dire straits, those who are adept at providing solace to the soul hold a special place in the heart. I will be forever grateful to Glenn & Jo!
As life continued, Glenn's health took a toll. Jo cared for him until it became a physical impossibility and she had to make the tough choice of putting him into a full-care facility. The love of her life was now separated from her. Dutifully she labored onward. Both of Jo's remaining 2 sisters fell ill to dementia. Jo took the matter in hand and placed them in the same facility. Being a friend to her baby sister, I asked to accompany her on visits to her family. This was a miracle to behold. She went from person to person, sharing love, care and laughter, in an otherwise grim situation. What a powerhouse! What a gentle soul this woman possessed!
Time passed and with it, the loss of her beloved Glenn. This man was unique in his immense understanding of biblical content and history. I found his ability to teach, rather remarkable. Jo considered him her strength.
Jo's loss did not deflect her loyalty from the duty of regular pilgrimages to the retirement facility. Jo's own health issues now required consideration. Her older sister passed. Still, health issues failed to deter her from her loyalty to her baby sister, Betty. Make no mistake, I have wonderful sisters of my own, but I always kidded Jo that I wanted her to adopt me as a sister.
This woman was a true treasure of
what love can accomplish...love
unfeigned. Glenn Reed was truly blessed to have found this little girl with whom to walk through life. God blessed each of us to have known this little gal with a big heart! Isn't this the way each of us would like to be remembered?
Jo we will miss you!
