Jesse dedicated more than 30 years of his life to the IBEW Local Union 716, first as an electrician then as a business organizer. A staple in the local union community, he also taught countless apprentices at the Houston Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee program. Whether in the classroom, on the job site or at the negotiating table, he was known for his sharp tongue and even sharper business sense. Going above and beyond the call of his job, he made it his personal mission to mentor young electricians and ensure the next generation of union workers knew both the demands of their job and the history of the where they came from. He also gave back to the community he came from, organizing and working on crews for Habitat for Humanity as well as countless other benefits. He mixed his love of smoking barbecue with his passion for giving back by cooking for many Local Union 716 benefits and events. In his personal life, he was a loving husband and father. Known as grandpa or “Pop Pop” to his grandchildren, he shared his passions of fishing and hunting with his family. A strict man, he instilled a strong work ethic and deep appreciation for life in his daughters. He taught them to be strong-willed, tenacious, and to relentlessly pursue their dreams. At the end of the day, his girls and his grandchildren were his heart.
