Jeffrey (Jeff) Dixon Laughlin's Obituary
Jeffrey (Jeff) Dixon Laughlin was born on May 9 ,1955 in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Carlisle High School in 1973. He was very active in sports, loved track and football, and carried that on to play football at Winona State University. Jeff graduated from Winona with a degree in Education focusing on History. He taught in Ohio for a couple years at Germantown and Lebanon schools, then moved to Texas and finished out his teaching career at Pearland and South Houston High Schools, where he continued his love for sports as a football and track coach.
Jeff had a love for hunting and fishing, spending many cold, early mornings quietly and patiently with his father and family sitting in a duck blind.
I remember many things growing up around Uncle Jeff: yelling “peace love niece” as he walked through Grandma’s front door; riding in his cool Firebird with T-tops out; shoot out at the drive-in movie and Jaws 3D; piles and piles of comic books and Sci-Fi books with worn covers from overuse; and watching Star Trek (especially the Trouble with Tribbles episode), Space Theater 3000 and Dr. Who.
He was a dedicated member at the Berechah Church in Houston, where he continued with their live discussion group when travel became difficult. They were his spiritual partners, and a few were present at his passing.
Jeff was called peacefully by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 24th at the age of 69.
Jeff is preceded in death by his parents, Charles “Doc” & Jane Laughlin; his brother Brett Laughlin; and his great niece Alexa Perry (Alexander) and her son Daxton. He is survived by his sister Rebecca Tyra (Laughlin) and her husband Eldon; nephew Mike Brasel; niece Audie Games (Brasel), her husband Marcus and kids Simon and Zoe Games; niece Necia Chaney (Brasel) and kids Ariel Alexander and Jake Denny; nephew Zac Laughlin, his wife Mandy and kids Dusty Laughlin (wife Staci and kids Charli, Bo & Jace,) and Sarah Laughlin; nephew Josh Laughlin, wife Lisa and kids Emma and Chase Laughlin; and niece Jodi Laughlin. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to the charity of your choice.
