Mr James A Nash's Obituary
NASH James A. Nash, born November 10, 1918, passed away December 11, 2008 in Houston, Texas, after a long and full life of just over 90 years. His mother was Alma Lawless Nash, and his father was John William Nash. He was married to Elizabeth Doris Nash of Velasco, Texas on April 19, 1941. They moved to Pasadena, Texas in December 1948 where they lived for 50 years. One of his greatest achievements was his service to his country in World War II where he served as 1st Lieutenant and the survey officer in the 969th Field Artillery Battalion. His unit landed on Utah Beach and fought their way across France and Belgium. His battalion received the Presidential Citation for their bravery and support their big guns gave in holding Bastogne in the Battle of the Bulge. He served as a part time sheriff for Harris County for several years. His work years focused on supervising the construction of bridges and roads in Texas and Louisiana, including sections of the 610 loop and most of the current bridges crossing I-10 inside the 610 loop in Houston. James is survived by his 2 daughters, Melinda Joyce Arnold and Beverly Diane Malone and husband Kent; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Annette Arnold, Christopher James Carlisle, Jerald Christopher Arnold and Mark Kohler Malone; 3 great grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Carlisle, James Christopher Carlisle and Cameron Drew Arnold and brother, Herman L. Nash and sister in law Jacqueline Nash. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Nash and his sister, Mary Lois Barr.
