Mr James Marlin Marsh's Obituary
James Marlin Marsh, 66, passed away June 4, 2014 due to complications of heart disease. He fought valiantly through leukemia and a stroke before his death. James, known to his friends as Marlin, was born in Houston to James Henry and Gladys Faye Marsh, who preceded him in death. Marlin is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sylvia Carpe Marsh, his 2 sons, James Michael of Houston and Bryan Andrew of Arlington, Virginia. He is also survived by his two sisters, Jeanice Naquin and husband Marcel of Pearland, and Nancy Murphy and husband Dennis of League City; sisters-in- law Marcia Howe and husband Gail, and Marie Carpe. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Despite suffering from legal blindness since the age of 14, Marlin overcame his disability and graduated from the University of Houston where he was a proud member of Phi Sigma Kappa. He thrived on discussions about history, most notably the Civil War and he exemplified this through his brief teaching career. Marlin graduated from the University of Houston Law School, after which he practiced law for 35 years. He was a Master Mason at Park Place Lodge #1172 and member of the Scottish Rite. His greatest passion was raising his children and supporting them in their activities and accomplishments. The family would like to thank Dr. Antoine Younis, Dr. George Younis, Dr. Jie Cheng, Dr. Nilesh Mathuria, Dr. Maneesh Patel, Dr. Dat Bui, and Dr. Vincent Virgadamo for their continued medical care and support. The family will receive visitors Sunday, June 8, 2014, at SouthPark Funeral Home in Pearland from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A service of celebration will be held Monday, June 9, 2014, in the chapel of SouthPark Funeral Home at 12:30 p.m. with interment to follow at SouthPark Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
