James Alan Johnson's Obituary
James Alan Johnson
May 20, 1957 – August 13, 2024
After a courageous battle with cancer, James Alan Johnson (JJ), with his children by his side, passed away peacefully at his home in Westwood Shores in Trinity, Texas, on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the age of 67.
James was born in Houston, Texas, on May 20, 1957, to George and Vivian (Williams) Johnson. He later moved with his family to Pearland, Texas, where he grew up, attended school, and eventually had a family of his own. After high school, he completed a five-year Piping and Welding Apprenticeship School, becoming a Journeyman Pipe Fitter and a member of Local 211. Throughout his career, James worked as a pipe fitter at the Bay City Nuclear Plant. He also held positions at companies such as Stewart & Stevenson and Owen Specialty in Houston, Texas, as a QA/Operations Manager.
After retiring from Owen Specialty, James enjoyed spending time with his family, visiting casinos, and playing golf with his friends at Westwood Shores, a sport he loved dearly. James frequently said a good day to him was any day he could play golf. Known for his exceptional cooking skills, friends and family who enjoyed his meals often wished they had asked for his recipes. Those who knew James will always remember his sense of humor and larger-than-life personality, which lit up every gathering and made him friends wherever he went.
During his battle with cancer, James showed remarkable courage and maintained a positive outlook even when the odds were against him. His family and friends celebrated his victory in the first battle with cancer, only to grieve when he lost the second.
Preceding James in death are his parents and his son, James Jr. He is survived by his ex-wife, Debbie (Schattel) Johnson, of Pearland, Texas, and their two children, Brian Johnson of Trinity, Texas, and daughter Amanda Johnson of Pearland, Texas; three grandchildren, Taylor Austin Johnson, James Nathaniel Johnson, and Gabby Lynn Johnson; two brothers, David, and Duke Johnson; and a sister, Patty (Johnson) Childress, along with their spouses and a large circle of family and friends.
A memorial service for James will take place on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at South Park Funeral Home, 1310 North Main St, Pearland, Texas. Immediately after the service, James will be laid to rest beside his son, James Jr., in South Park Cemetery.
