Mr. James E. Hatton's Obituary
James Elmer Hatton made the transition to his final resting place on June 8, 2018. He was born October 10, 1932 to the late Alonzo (Lonnie) and Tinnie Hughes Hatton in Warren, Texas.
He graduated Warren High School in 1950 and maintained strong ties with his alma mater serving on the school reunion committee as Secretary/Treasurer until his 80’s. He received a basketball scholarship to the University of Houston where he played forward for the Cougars until his graduation in 1954.
Upon graduation, Big Jim as he was affectionately known to his friends and co-workers, went to work for the Gray Tool Company in Houston. He remained with them for the next 42 years and retired as a sales representative. He also served on the board of The Country Place senior living community in Pearland for many years. He loved mediating and resolving issues for the seniors living there.
On June 1, 2013, he married the second love of his life, Polly Saenz Hesse Hatton after a 13-year courtship. With this marriage, he received a new family including sons, James Hesse wife Valerie, Dennis Hesse and wife Connie along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy J. (Dottie) siblings; brothers, Leon, Edgbert, Norris and Nulen, sisters Margarite Duhon, Frances Phillips and Alvie Jo Morgan (who passed only 16 hours before him.)
I have been asked if there was an organization that people could make donations to in honor of my step-dad, Jim Hatton. Here are a couple; Warriors Weekend and Honor Flight Network, both can be found on line. My cousins actually volunteer for Warriors Weekend and they only have one paid member for the foundation. My father-in-law got to go on an Honor Flight and it meant the world to him. Both are made up of mostly volunteers so the funds get used for the true purpose of supporting our Veterans. When telling Big Jim about these groups over the years he thought it was really something special. When he wasn't watching sports he was watching military documentaries on tv. So if you would like to make a donation in his honor either of these groups would be great. Thanks and God Bless.
