Mr. James Benjamin Derrick's Obituary
James ‘Jim’ Benjamin Derrick, 72, passed away in his home on April 23, 2018. He was the beloved husband of 49 years of Sandra Joan (Hey) Derrick of Pearland, Texas. Father of James Derrick, Laura Hyatt, and her husband, Derek. ‘HeeHaw’ to Ethan Campo and Emma Hyatt. Preceded in death by father, H.I. Derrick, mother, Mildred Derrick, and brother, Robert Derrick of Houston. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jim was born in South Carolina on July 15, 1945. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a combat photographer. After meeting Sandra while working at the Houston Chronicle and marrying her in November of 1968, he moved to Pearland, Texas and started Derrick Drilling Co., his water well drilling business.
After retiring, he enjoyed motorcycles, movies, and goofing around with his grandchildren. A celebration of Jim’s life and interment of ashes will be held at a later date.
