He was one of the first Presidents of the USMMA Alumni Chapter in Houston. We are looking for a copy of the original charter and I know Jim would have had a copy! His memory lives on!

Grandad will always be my role model. Everywhere we went, he always had the best reputation with others whether it was at church, restaurants where he would reserve his muscles, or any family event. Hearing his laugh echoing throughout the house would always make me smile because of how contagious it was. I love you grandad, you truly lived life to the fullest🤍-Sophia Merlino
First & foremost my sincere condolences on your lost. I was a young Port Purser back in the early 1960's & I was lucky enough to be assigned with Capt. Baker on our trip to Los Angles for a payoff. While we were in Capt Baker's room with other Lykes employees we started talking about Disney World & I mentioned that I had never been there before. So low & behold while we were still waiting for the vessel to arrive Capt. Baker told me to get my walking shoes on that he was going to take me to Disney World. I must say it was a long day but a most enjoyable time I had. And over the years I was lucky to be assigned with him several times later in my time at Lykes. My name is Elroy Hartman & I must say that he was one of the nicest men that I had the pleasure of working with over my many years at Lykes Brothers. We will always cherish you with never ending love. I have so many memories with you. Your laughter was my favorite. I think one of my favorite things is the stories you told and how you told it. I loved sitting and talking asking questions, you always had an answer. I love you and will continue to tell my children and grandchildren what an amazing man you were.
Jim always treated me like family. I loved his chuckle,such a sweet man.He loved going to the Polish restaurant,Polonia. I found that interesting. I shall miss him. Now he’s with the Lord and his “ Ging”.🙏
