Mr. James Stanley Alley Jr.'s Obituary
James S. Alley, Jr. Forget the adjectives, James (Jim) S. Alley, Jr., simply left none that had not been used by family and friends in describing his warmth, his sense of fun, and all of his singular qualities, which will remain in our memories. He died on July 21, 2014, his 64th birthday. As a young person, Jim was a dedicated student and spent his junior year of college abroad in Paris learning the language. After receiving a BA degree from Austin College, his education was interrupted by the draft, but after his service at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, he continued on to earn an MA degree in history from Southern Methodist University. He was a devoted teacher of history and French for many years thereafter at Wheatley High School in Houston. After retirement from teaching, Jim began a second career as an antiques dealer. This was a natural progression for him, because from childhood and thoughout his life, Jim was a tireless collector of books, paintings, furniture, objects of art, and anything else that appealed to his individual vision and sense of history and design. Jim leaves many special friends, two goddaughters, his father, and his brother. Jim's loving mother preceded him in 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one's charity of choice.
