Mrs. Irma McGee's Obituary
Irma Dowdell McGee, 91, died June 26, 2011. A Houston resident for 60 years, she moved from Bowling Green, Ohio at the end of WW II. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, husbands Merle F. Dowdell and L. E. "Mac" McGee, and daughter Mary Alice "Bitsy" Treadwell. She is survived by her son, Randy S. Dowdell; step-children Sharon Rowell and Jerry and Michael McGee; grandchildren Kyle Treadwell, Kristen Rudd, Katie Treadwell, Christopher Dowdell, Karen Brown and Walton and Steven Rowell; great-grandchildren Mary Judah and Killian Rudd, Jacob, Elijah, and Rachel Treadwell (due August 2011), Ashlyn and Tyler Brown and June Dowdell. Mrs. McGee taught preschool for 17 years at St. Stephens Episcopal Day School. Then she worked with her beloved 4 and 5 year olds at Methodist schools in the Heights. She was an active member of St. Mark's Methodist Church and a teacher of the Friendship Class; a member of United Methodist Women, San Jacinto Sultanas and Ewes Club; and life member of the PTA. She founded the Silver Tones, a singing group of her contemporaries, which was well-known in Spring Branch where she lived a number of years. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m., Friday, July 1 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 600 Pecore St.
