Mrs. Irene Alaniz's Obituary
Irene Alaniz, our beloved mother, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on the 7th of November 2015. She was born on the 7th of May, 1937 in Houston, Texas. Mom was the eldest daughter of many beautiful daughters to David Casarez Alaniz and Alejandra Flores Alaniz. Mom was a hard worker and retired at the age of 70. She worked 20 years as a hostess for McDonald’s Corporation at Texas Children’s Hospital. Mom took pleasure in her ability to work hard, provide for her children and manage the household-keeping it spotless. Mom loved to garden, plant flowers, roses, gardenias, chili peppers and fruit trees. There was not a plant that Mom couldn't grow; she loved her plants, especially the chili peppers she would use for her hot salsas that were unforgettably hot and delicious.
Mom had the most giving heart to all her family. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do to help anyone at any time. Mom was a great cook, we all enjoyed her labors at family gatherings and all holidays at her home. As kids we could never understand how she could feed so many visiting family members, friends and still have enough to feed her many dear elderly neighbors with a 10lb turkey - she was amazing! Mom prided herself on her ability to accomplish the enormous task single handedly of the annual Christmas tamales for the whole family, neighbors and her many friends – she was a Master indeed.
She loved to dance, walk, entertain, visit with family, watch Home Shopper’s Channel, soap operas and game shows. She loved animals and was happy around them. She is in heaven together once again with Crystal, her devoted companion dog of 17 years by her side.
Mom is survived by her loving, son and daughters, Armando Martinez, wife Gloria; Ann Aleman, husband Fidel; Anna McHugh, husband James; Soyla Angelita Torres, husband Jorge; her grandchildren, Jessica Syptak, Arthur Vega, Vincent Aleman, Erin McHugh, Corey McHugh, Bryan Torres, Kymberly Torres, Sara Martinez, Nicole Martinez, Alec Martinez and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Lena Mendoza, Patricia Duran, Norma Rozelle, brother, Eddie Dunn and numerous nephews and nieces. Mom is predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Hope Alaniz, Elva Rose De Los Santos, and her brother, Charles Alaniz.
Our mother lived a blessed life. She loved in the greatest capacity and lived life day by day to the best of her abilities and to the fullest. She leaves a legacy of love, caring and sacrifice for the entire family. Though we may no longer see her, we will carry her love and legacy in our hearts and memories forever.
