Mrs. Indira Devi Nandagiri's Obituary
Indira Devi Nandagiri, 87, passed away peacefully in the presence of family and friends on Monday, January 22, 2007 at her son's home in Sugar Land, Texas. She was born on September 30, 1919 in Andhra Pradesh, India and graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts degree from Bombay University in 1936. She was an accomplished writer in her native language of Telugu and was recently recognized by the government of Andhra Pradesh in India for her humorous writings. In her earlier years, she took an active role in spearheading the liberation of her state from the British rule. In 1998 she migrated to the US to live with her sons. Her husband, Venkata Rao Nandagiri and daughter, Maya Patri, precede her in death. She is survived by sons Showri and his wife Raju of Sugar Land, Texas, Arun and his wife Sonia from Libertyville, Illinois, Veera and his wife Kamesh from Hyderabad, India, and son-in-law P.V.S. Rao from Hyderabad, India. In addition, she is survived by her brothers, Dr. Dhananjaya Rao of San Jose, California, Dr. Sudhakar Rao of Warren, Ohio, and Dr. Ravindra of Hyderabad, India. She will be lovingly remembered by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends in India and America. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Houston Hospice Care Team for their love and compassion.
