Ianthe Gittens' Obituary
lanthe Gittens, also known as lanthe Hutchinson, passed away on August 5th, 2023. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and great aunt. lanthe was born on April 1st, 1924, to Ceon Hutchinson and Louise "Lilly" Gittens in the St.Phillip parish on the beautiful island of Barbados. She took great pride in sharing her birthdate and would often amuse others by saying, "I was born on April fool's day, but I ain't no fool."
Despite her small size, she possessed an undeniable strength and fiercely defended those dear to her.
Following her departure from the hotel industry in Barbados, she relocated to the United States in 1985 to join her daughters Ann and Orene along with her granddaughters Sharon and Nesha. In due course, she experienced the joy of being a great-grandmother to Kaleb and Joshua, who held a special place in her heart and instilled in her an immense sense of pride.
In 2017, Ianthe and her family made the decision to move from Brooklyn, New York to Pearland, Texas. Throughout her journey, she was adored and valued by everyone she came across, including her church family, doctors, and medical team. Granny, also known as Hutchie, had a passion for cooking and her skills were evident in every dish she prepared.
Her commitment and love for cooking were inherited by her daughter, Orene.
Granny enjoyed playing Bingo with her friends as a pastime and was capable of giving you some valuable lessons in the card game.
"Rummy" if you were up for the challenge.
Despite her declining memory in her final days, lanthe adored the Lord and always addressed Him as the Master, never failing to engage in conversations with him.
Throughout her life, those who loved her were there for her even until her last moments. It deeply saddens us to see her go, and we wish we could have had more time with her.
However, we are thankful for the blessing of her reaching the remarkable age of 99. As she always reminded us, everything is in the master's hand it is with this belief, we release her, knowing that she is now eternally safe in the care of her Master.
Those who will always love and remember her are left behind by her- her daughters, Ann and Orene, granddaughters Sharon and Nesha, great grandsons Kaleb and Joshua; her niece Junie, great nephews David, Derek, great nieces Maureen, Marilyn, Betty, Barbara, and great great nieces Rianna, Tia, Alanna, and Aishling.
Additionally, she will be greatly missed by numerous friends in Barbados, the United Kingdom, and the USA.
