Mrs. Hesper Hardy Melancon's Obituary
Loving tribute to the life of
HESPER LEGER HARDY MELANCON
Hesper Augustine Elizabeth Leger was born on October 23, 1926, to Hesper and Eloise (Louie) Leger in Vidor, Texas and transitioned to her heavenly home on March 12, 2020. Hesper was blessed to have three beautiful sisters and one brother - Helen, Margarite, Teresa & Frank.
She was a strikingly beautiful young woman and throughout her life her beauty within was demonstrated by her kind and sweet nature. She rarely met a stranger, and generally over a snack and a cup of coffee, they would become fast friends. Hesper was a young woman ahead of her time and repeatedly proved that over the years with her children and grandchildren. She met and married Eulen Hardy in a whirlwind romance on April 11, 1945, and was married to him until his death in 1984. They had a daughter, Cyndi & a son, Robert, and raised their family in Pasadena, Texas.
Hesper’s legacy will carry on in her sister- Teresa Krug, children - daughter, Cyndi Hardy Coco and son, Robert Hardy / wife Debbie, granddaughter - Shay Butts / husband Joey and grandson - Jeremy Hardy, great grandchildren - Alexandra Blalock / husband Aaron, Andrew Escamilla, Jacob Butts and James Miranda.
Hesper had a knack for connecting with people. She worked in retail starting at a very young age and loved participating in volunteering for USO activities to benefit the soldiers during World War 2.
Hesper worked at Sears & Roebuck in Pasadena for many years and retired from Sears in 1983.
In 1987, while on a weekend getaway in Crystal Beach, she met the next great love of her life, Ira Melancon. Both were widowed and brought tremendous joy to each other throughout their marriage of 15 years until his death in 2003. They loved to dance, fish, ride in his boat, travel, cook and entertain friends and family. Often you would find them on their porch swing, in Crystal Beach, watching the pelicans soar to roost around sunset every evening. Her marriage to Ira brought the addition of bonus kids - Craig, Mike, Dana & Melanie Melancon and their families. Hesper loved family...biological or bonus. Everyone had a place at her table, which was always filled with everyone’s favorite dishes.
Hesper’s death is not an ending, but a future. A future for the many friends and family who believe in Jesus the Christ and will one day join her in heaven. Find strength and peace in the forever memories we share, and grieve not. Find hope in knowing there is a day we will be reunited, and I’m sure she will save you a seat at her table.
Afterglow
I'd like the memory of me
To be a happy one
I'd like to leave
an afterglow
Of smiles when life is done
I'd like to leave an echo
Whispering softly
down the ways
Of happy times and laughing times
And bright
and sunny days
I'd like the tears
of those who grieve,
To dry before the sun
Of happy memories
that I leave
When life is done
