Herbert Lee Dozier Jr's Obituary
Commander Herbert Lee Dozier, Jr. USN Ret. of Sugar Land, Texas, passed from this life to the
next on June 15, 2023.
The funeral service will be held at 2pm on Saturday the first of July at South Park Funeral
Home in Pearland, Texas. Dave Smith, pastor of Northwest Community Church in San
Antonio, will be officiating. Visitation will be held at noon immediately preceding the service.
Burial will follow the funeral at South Park Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled
by South Park Funeral Home.
Lee was born in Washington, DC on February 11, 1936. He graduated from San Jacinto High
School and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rice Institute in May 1958
followed by a Master of Science in Engineering Electronics from The United States Naval Post
Graduate School in June 1964.
Lee was joined in Holy Matrimony to Myrna J. Davis on May 31, 1958; they celebrated 65
years together earlier this year.
Lee began a life-long career of service to God, his family, his country, and community; first as
an officer in the United States Navy for 20 years. During his Naval career he received the Joint
Service Commendation Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, the National Defense Service Medal,
the Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars, the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit
Citation Gallantry Cross (Civil Actions Medal), and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal
with Device (1960-1973). Lee retired from active duty in 1978. He then went on to become the
first City Engineer of Sugar Land. After that he was the Facilities Maintenance Manager at Rice
University from 1984 to 1989. He was then hired for his engineering expertise by Rimkus
Consulting, for whom he opened and managed their offices in San Antonio.
In his personal life Lee was an elder at Northwest Community Church in San Antonio and a
member of Gideons International. He spent many years helping to spread the Word and Love
of Jesus Christ through his work with them.
Lee is survived by his wife Myrna, his son David Lee, his daughter Debra Merlynn, his
grandchildren Christopher Davis, Timothy Lincoln, and Charles, and his brother Donald Loyd.
He is preceded in death by his parents Herbert Lee, Sr. and Minnie Mae Roberts, his
grandmother Mable Baker, and his brother David Robert, Sr.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to The Gideons International. The family of
Herbert Lee Dozier, Jr. wishes to thank everyone who has come together to show their support
