Henry Levi Shrake Jr.'s Obituary
Henry Levi Shrake, Jr. passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017 at the age of 93. He was born February 10, 1923 to Henry L. Shrake and Olga Rose Hiltbrunner Shrake in Houston, Texas.
Henry grew up and spent most of his life in Houston graduating from Jeff Davis High School. He served in the United States Army as a Gunnery Instructor at Tyndall Field, Florida. After completion of his military service, Henry attended the University of Houston where he earned his Bachelor of Law degree in 1950 as a member of the first graduation class at The University of Houston Law Center.
After a few years in the legal arena, Henry decided to pursue a career in public education. He began as a teacher and very quickly moved into the role of principal. He retired from education while serving as the Principal of Pearl Rucker Elementary in Houston ISD.
Henry loved riddles and enjoyed sharing them with family and friends. He was an avid fan of national news programs keeping well informed about what was going on in the world. Family celebrations were a joy as he shared time with those who loved him. He was a long time member of Park Place Methodist Church (Servants of Christ).
Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Melva Joyce. He is survived by brothers Bryan Shrake of Vernon, British Columbia, Canada and Gordon Shrake of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and his extended family Wayne and Pat Adams, Diane Wilson, and Barbara Peacock.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, January 20 at SouthPark Funeral Home, 1310 N. Main Street, Pearland, Texas at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral. The family will be there to greet relatives and friends.
