Helen Esther Smith Skinner's Obituary
Heaven has gained a beautiful soul. On Friday afternoon, January 20, 2023 we lost our Mawmaw. Our Esther, Sister, Grandmother and Mom. Words can’t fully describe who Helen Esther Smith Skinner was to us, but her youngest son came really close when he first prayed after hearing she had passed, “secretly strong and openly loving”. Those words truly describe her character. Esther loved her family fiercely and loved Jesus even more. She would do anything for either one and often did. She touched countless lives in her lifelong service to Christ. And oh the joy and love she brought to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She made every moment with them count. We never saw her smile bigger than when one of them sat on her lap - except when she would fit two. And they never outgrew her lap! Her laughter and her smile were constant, she was the good kind of spunky and never let her age get in the way. She’s the only 89 year old woman we know to act out Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer. Esther was happiest when her house was full with all of her family and better yet if their family came too. She taught us all how to love, how to serve the Lord, how to have fun, how to show up, how to persevere - she taught us how to live. There is no doubt she stood before the Lord and heard “well done good and faithful servant”. We don’t know why God called her home now during this time of trial for our family. But like every wave that has hit us these past months, the Lord has provided through it. We miss her so much but know she would want us all to continue fighting the Good fight. God is Good!
