I did not see this until today (17th) so missed seeing a family I have loved for half a century. My favorite memory of Helen was a canoe trip in Big Bend Thanksgiving 1990 or 91, not sure. Those who know her will relate to us being first packed & on the river each morning and first unpacked and set up each evening. She was EFFICIENT! Entertainment, no radio, non stop singing! I was always amazed that a woman with so much tragedy in life was forever singing. She was incredibly strong, hard working and full of joy.

Aunt Helen was my grandfathers sister. She was the only sister out of three that I personally knew. To me, she was Aunt Booja, the kissing bandit. I am not sure how I came up with the name Booja for her but my mother said I began calling her that at a very early age. She had a warm heart and joyous personality and I always felt loved and welcomed when around her. I will always remember her squeezing and kissing my cheeks, she truly lived up the the kissing bandit name. Both her and Uncle Ed are a large part of my childhood memories. Those memories will last a lifetime as I will never forget either of them. My deepest sympathies and prayers go out the the Schlitzkus and Valusek families and the ones that cared for Aunt Booja.

mama Helen as she was to me and she often claimed me as a daughter was a lady with a warrior spirit. She didn’t like to share her daughter, Debbie with me but would always come around when she knew we could share. May she Rest In Peace and finally be rejoined with those that were her life. 💗Donna Nystrom
