Mrs. Helen L. Childers' Obituary
Helen Lowe Childers, 93, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Pearland, Texas.
Born in Laurel, Mississippi on November 8, 1923 to Charles E. and Elsie Lowe, she was the middle of three children with older brother Garland and younger sister Frances. A child of the great depression, she grew up understanding the principles of hard work and the value of a dollar. In High School, she would bake cakes and pies to sell to the local restaurant for extra income, but also so she could meet the love of her life, Robert R. Childers, who worked there. Sadly she would watch as Robert and many other friends would leave the small train station in Laurel to fight in World War II. With the safe return of Robert after WWII, they were married on January 3. 1946 in Wayne County, Mississippi. A family was soon started and shortly after the birth of their second child in 1954, a move to Pasadena, Texas was made following other family members seeking greater job opportunities and a better future. There she started a career that spanned over 30 years with Sears, Roebuck and Co. in the credit department that would later lead to a supervisory position. Later the family would move to Pearland, Texas in 1966 where they would remain until her passing. She took great pride in her work and loved the challenge of solving the unsolvable. A caring and loving mother who woke up before everyone else and went to bed after everyone else with an unwavering devotion to her family. God has gained a very special Angel.
She was preceded in death by husband Robert R. Childers, Sr., parents Charles E. and Elsie Lowe, brother Garland Lowe and sister Frances Perkins. She is survived by sons Robert R. Childers, Jr. and Charles R. Childers, grandsons John and Matthew Childers, and great-grandchildren Parker and Katy Childers.
