Hedrick Wayne Vinton's Obituary
Hedrick Wayne Vinton (Capt. Wayne) was born October 10, 1943 to Ira and Edith Vinton in Rockdale, TX. He went to high school in Somerville, TX and after high school he surveyed on the future lake Somerville project until being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965.
After a two-year stint during the Vietnam Conflict, he returned home and went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and retired from there in 1987. Retirement led him to guiding on Lake Conroe, Fayette County Lake and eventually Galveston Bay.
In 2001 he began co-hosting the Sports radio 610 Outdoor Show with his good friend Bob Stephenson Jr. Upon Bob Jr’s passing in 2002 he assumed the full-time duties on the show until health issues forced him to again retire in 2007. During his time hosting the program he won numerous broadcasting awards including the Partnership in Conservation Award from CCA Texas.
After leaving the radio business he returned to his roots on Lake Somerville and guided there until health issues again forced him to stop in 2016. While guiding Capt. Wayne promoted getting the youth of Texas involved in fishing by offering free trips to kids with straight A report cards, offering discounted family trips and worked over 30 years with the Sunshine Kids.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 455 in Somerville, TX. As well as a member of The Lee Scott 790 Masonic Lodge in Somerville, TX for over 50 Years.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Linda, his son Michael Wayne and wife Jennifer. Grandchildren Katie, Jacob and Shelby and Great Grandchildren Camille and Isabella.
