Mr Gordon E. Boatright's Obituary
BOATRIGHT Gordon E. Boatright, 87, died Monday, June 9, 2008, in an Abilene Hospital. Gordon was born April 13, 1921, in San Angelo to Ernest and Birtie Payne Boatright. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. A Chief Petty Officer, he fought in several sea battles and was aboard two ships that were sunk in combat. He and his family were Houston residents for 40 years and former members of the Southeast Church of Christ. He was a machinist for NASA for 21 years and made many components used on the Gemini and Apollo space vehicles. He retired in 1986. After the death of his wife Nancy, he later married Florence Holland Boatright of Tuscola, Texas where they resided until his death. He was an active member of the South Taylor County Lions Club. Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Nancy Burger Boatright; and three brothers, Calvin Boatright, Lyndal Boatright and Kyle Boatright. Survivors include his wife, Flo Boatright of Tuscola; daughters, Joy McKelroy and husband Girard of Sugar Land; Marsha Rapp and husband Sam of Houston; son, Rolan Boatright and wife Linda of Houston; two stepsons, Garay Holland and wife Pat of Bee Branch, Ak., Jerald Holland and wife Joan of Fernandina Beach, FL.; one sister, Ernestine Scott of San Angelo; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
