Mrs. Gloria Elsensohn Decorte's Obituary
Gloria Elsensohn DeCorte entered the loving arms of Our Lord on June 16, 2019, at the age of 92 after a long, loving and creative life. She was born on September 18, 1926, in New Orléans, Louisiana to John Paul Elsensohn and Claire Blanche Sison Elsensohn. She was the youngest of three sisters. She married Joseph P. DeCorte at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in New Orleans on September 27, 1947.
Mrs. DeCorte worked as a designer and seamstress for most of her life. She started at the young age of 10, making dresses to her classmates and was soon making formals, tabernacle covers and wedding dresses. She was fortunate enough to make her and her daughter’s wedding dress. She was an impeccable and organized homemaker.
After the family moved to Houston, she supported her husband’s career at NASA during the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo- Soyuz, and Shuttle Missions.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 45 years, Joseph, daughter in law, Vicki Arrington DeCorte, and sisters; Anna Labourdette (Amos) and Shirley O’Meallie (Harry).
She will always be remembered by her loving children Linda Watts, husband Oliver R. Watts, and Joseph Guy DeCorte Sr, grandchildren; Joseph Guy DeCorte Jr, Adam Samuel DeCorte (Jamie), Rose Ann DeCorte Rayner, and Lacy Nicole DeCorte, great-grandchildren; Jonathon Lain Courts, Joseph Landon DeCorte and Sarah M. DeCorte.
The DeCorte family will be receiving friends and family on Thursday, June 20, 2019, for visitation at SouthPark Funeral Home starting at 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The Holy Rosary will be recited starting at 7:00 PM. A funeral mass will be starting at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 21, 2019, at St. Luke The Evangelist Catholic Church.
