Gladys Mae Watkins' Obituary
Gladys Mae Watkins, 94, of Pasadena, Texas went to be with her Lord, on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. Mae, as she was commonly known, was born on April 20, 1916 in Malvern, Arkansas to William Joseph & Julia Mae Spraggins and was one of seven children. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Buster and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and John Sullivan of Dickinson, grandsons, Kerry Marcantel, Jr. and Tracy Marcantel of Pasadena, great-grandchildren, Codey, Maude & Tyler, her brother and sister-in-law, William and Katherine Spraggins of Branson, Missouri and sister-in-law, Lou Hale of San Jose, CA as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mae moved to Houston in the 30's and worked as a welder for Hughes Tool during World War II welding 50 caliber shell casings until the war was over. After the war, she married her husband of 37 years, Buster. Mae continued working for several companies in Houston including the Rice Hotel until she opened her beauty salon in 1964. She retired in the late 70's and traveled with her husband until his death in 1982. She is remembered by her daughter and grandchildren as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, buddy, friend and mentor and will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know her.
