George Jay French's Obituary
Our beloved George Jay French passed away peacefully in his home on June 22, 2024, at the age of 84. He is survived by his wife Celia, daughters Debbie and RaeAnne, son Christopher, brothers Glen and Earl and countless family and friends.
He was born in Galveston Texas on February 20, 1940. His childhood in Angleton, Texas led him to attend Hardin Simmons University where he proudly performed in their Cowboy Band where he not only played the flute, but he performed and entertained as a whip and rope artist. He loved to speak about it with anyone who would listen.
After college he joined the army as a lieutenant and served his country in Vietnam. George, fondly referred to by family and friends as Pierre, obtained a Masters Degree in Mathematics and taught mathematics for many years in both New Jersey and Texas. During his time as an educator, he also drove buses for the school system and coached football and track as well as providing early IT support for the schools.
He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, enjoyed music, square dancing, traveling, race car driving, Pierre was a member of the Masonic Lodge as a 32nd degree Mason.
The memorial service will be held at Houston National Cemetery, July 12th, at 9:30. All friends and family are welcome. The family asks that donations to Shriners Children's Hospital be made instead of flowers or other gifts.
