Geneva "Jean" Hemphill Dean's Obituary
Geneva “Jean” Hemphill Dean entered into the loving arms of our Lord on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at the age of 97 years. Jean, as she was known, was born at Lohn, Texas on June 24, 1926, to R. K. and Josephine Baird Hemphill.
Jean dedicated her life to her family and children and later became a Teacher’s Aid in elementary school and then Secretary to the Principal at both Alvin ISD and Temple ISD. After retiring, she and her sisters, Blanche and Blake dabbled in sales of antiques and collectibles. All four sisters really enjoyed what they referred to as “junking” or “garage sailing.” On one occasion, Jean, her younger sister, Mary, and Mary Kathryn, Mary’s daughter, were junking at a little town called Rosebud, near Temple, Texas. One old shop had a lot of potential treasures, but it smelled awful. Mary Kathryn, about 9 years old at the time, said, “Just breathe out, Aunt Jean, just breath out.”
By 2005, because of Jean’s failing memory, she entered memory care, first at Winchester Lodge in Alvin, Texas, and then at Eden Hill Communities in New Braunfels, Texas, until her passing.
Jean is preceded in death by her father and mother, R. K. Hemphill of Alvin, Texas, and Josephine Baird Hemphill of Brady, Texas. One son, Larry Kent Williams of Houston, Texas.
