Geneva V. Jackson's Obituary
Geneva Vercher Jackson graced this earth on August 2, 1935, in Chopin, Louisiana and was born to the late Frank and Maggie Lacaze Vercher. She quietly passed away in her home in Houston, Texas on September 16, 2024, at the blessed age of 89.
Her walk with Christ began at the age of 18 while a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Upon her relocation to Houston, Texas, she became a member of Berean Baptist Church. Following this membership, she was a member of St. Agnes Missionary Baptist Church for 26 years. She later transferred to New Covenant Christian Church. She was a woman of strong faith and commitment to God. It was this commitment that kept her family together through trials, tribulations, and celebrations.
She attended school at Washington School until the 8th grade. She continued her education by earning her GED through a night school program. Geneva began working as a housekeeper and was a diligent and conscientious employee taking great pride in her job performance. She furthered her education by attending LVN classes and also received a certificate in television repair and ward clerk. It was her philosophy that you could improve yourself no matter the circumstance.
At the age of 42, she moved to Houston, Texas and became employed at Ben Taub Hospital as a ward clerk in the emergency room. Her colleagues found her to be a joy to work with and loved being in her presence. It was her unselfish manner of sharing her wisdom and knowledge to younger workers and lending a helpful hand during crises. Her work was rewarded with retirement after 18½ years of service.
Geneva enjoyed sewing and traveling. Her adventures took her to various places and momentous events including the 2001 WBNA All-Star Game in Orlando, Florida.
