Garland Walter Yarberry-82: 1927-2009. Born in Kingman, Kansas, September 27, 1927 to Walter and Meredith Yarberry. Garland passed away peacefully in his home in Friendswood, Texas after several years of battling Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's. He is preceded by his parents. He is survived by his devoted wife Bernice (Wolfe) Yarberry; his children: Stanley Garland Yarberry (Sam), Danny Meredith Yarberry and his wife, Janel; Jacqueline Yarberry Williams and her husband, David; eight grandchildren: Cassie, Gabrielle, Crystal and Tiffany; Jason and Briahna, Anthony and Amanda; eight great-grandchildren; and his sisters: Donna Lindstrom, Tine Hartnell, and Sandy Bruch. Garland served three years in the United States Marines, and worked as a system's analyst for both Boeing and Lockheed. He and his wife also owned an upholstery business. He lived in Kansas, Colorado, Washington and Texas. One of Garland's proudest accomplishments was his 61 years of marriage to Bernice. Since retirement, Garland and his wife have lived in Austin and Friendswood, Texas. They devoted their time and energies to several charities including: Lake Travis Crisis Ministries, Meals On Wheels and Hospice. They also participated in several activities with the churches they belonged to, most recently Friendswood Calvary Chapel. Among Garland's greatest joys in life was watching his grandchildren grow into fine young adults. Whenever possible he attended school events in which the kids were involved. He loved to travel and visited Canada, Mexico, Israel and over half the states in the U.S. One of his last vacations was spending a week camping with his family in Washington State. His love, companionship, and witty sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His family grieves their loss but rejoices in knowing he is walking with the Lord.
