Mrs. Florence "Marie" Lewis' Obituary
Florence “Marie” Lewis, 96, died peacefully on February 4, 2015 in her home at The Forum Retirement Community where she had lived for 25 years. Marie was born October 20, 1918 in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Harry and Florence Kivel.
Marie grew up in the Heights and attended Ronald Regan High School where she was a Reagan Redcoat. In 1940 she married the love of her life, Donald Spencer Lewis, who was the Business Manager of Bridge City Independent School District.
In addition to raising their children, she worked as a secretary to the middle school principal until she retired and moved back to Houston. Marie was an active and dedicated member of First Baptist Church. She was full of life and was still walking two miles a day when she was 90 years old.
Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her husband; Donald Spencer Lewis, sister; Betty Royal; brother, Harry Kivel, and great-grandchild; Elizabeth Grace Leyva. She is survived by her children; Beverly McConnell and husband Don, Don Lewis and wife Marilyn and Pam Arceneaux and husband Mike, grandchildren; David McConnell, Jeff Lewis and wife Amber, Randy Lewis, Michael Leyva and wife Malorie and Michelle Arceneaux, great-grandchildren; Rachael McConnell, Brandt Lewis, Brinley Lewis, Boston Lewis, Allie Leyva and Emma Leyva.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 12:30 PM until 1:00 PM at the chapel of First Baptist Church, 7450 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM.
