Florence "Flo" Mable Thompson's Obituary
Flo Thompson was born on May 14, 1923, in Alvin, Texas. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 15, 2018, with her son, Davey, by her side, at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Clyde David Thompson, Jr. Flo is survived by her son, Clyde Davis Thompson III (known as Davey to everyone) her daughter in law, Shelley
Thompson, Grandsons, Tyler and Travis Thompson. Flo is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Henry, nieces, Joy Cummins, Bunny Knots, Jean Henry, Sue Henry and Roger Henry. Also, her sister in law Clara "Chubby" Slack. They also bowled and traveled together as much as their schedules allowed. Chubby liked to call Flo "Flossie".
Special mention shall be made for Linda Dean, her best friend that had been by her side for MANY years. Linda was her good friend, her confidant, chauffeur, shopper, just all around wonderful caregiver*
We love you Linda, and feel you are a part of our family!
We comically referred to Flo as the Energizer Bunny, as she had so much energy, and was involved in so many activities and organizations, but none more important than her Church, Southeast Church of Christ, where she had been a member for 40+years.
She was also secretary at Bellfort Church of Christ for a number of years.
I like to tell people that Flo was one of the most spiritual and Christian people I have ever known in my life. If you wanted a verse or a story, all you had to do was ask her, and she would give it to you lickity split! She volunteered for anything there was a need for at church, when someone was in need of food, prayer, help of any kind, or just an ear to listen.
She was a volunteer at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital for 19+ years. Even after becoming legally blind, Flo was there to assist in day surgery with pushing wheel chairs, getting warm blankets, getting a drink for you, or simply sitting and praying with you.
I think her biggest joy, outside of the church was her bowling. She bowled in many leagues throughout the city of Houston for 40+years. Again, even after becoming legally blind, her team mates would tell her where the pins were, and she seemed to knock them down every time. She also traveled all over the United States with her bowlers as well as England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Italy and Spain.
She and Clyde (who passed away in 1989) were avid hunters and fishermen, and pretty much anything to do with the outdoors. They were quite the team and she enjoyed hunting and fishing every time they had the chance.
She was loved by so many family and friends, and we look forward to seeing you again....
