Evelyn Patricia Sabo's Obituary
Evelyn P (Wason) Sabo, 87 of Pasadena, TX peacefully ascended to Heaven on October 3, 2021.
“Memaw” as she was known by much of her immediate family, was born on February 12, 1934 in Houston, Texas in the midst of the Great Depression, to Dorothy and Andrew Wason. She married her High School sweetheart Mike Sabo Jr. while she was still in high school, prior to him joining the United States Army. Upon graduation she moved to Whittier, CA to be close to him while he was completing training. When he was deployed to Germany she returned to Houston. After he completed his service in the Army they bought a home in Pasadena and started a family, where she lived the rest of her life. Together they raised five (5) children. Her early adult life was devoted to being a good wife and mother, as her family was her entire world. Her goal was to provide a stable home, structured around God, high morals, respect and integrity. She taught her children to be independent, self-sufficient and capable of navigating life. She took her role as a parent very serious, feeling that it was more important to prepare her children for life over being their friend, although the love and friendship was always evident.
Once her children were grown and establishing their own families she started a career using the skills she had honed as a housewife and mom. She became a Seamstress, where she made a name for herself creating costumes for notables such as Olympians; Kristi Yamaguchi, Dominique Moceanu and Tara Lipinsky.
Her faith in God and commitment to the Catholic Church was unquestionable. She devoted much of her time volunteering at the Church to assist those in need.
She always loved nurturing, which started with her family and continued through her love of gardening and was evident in her yard. Her backyard was her sanctuary that has to be experienced to appreciate. She always said “Yard work is the best stress reliever I know”.
Most of her time was spent tending to her family, garden and following her Houston Rockets, Texans and Astros, when they field a competitive team and even when they didn’t.
She never missed a birthday party, Easter celebration, Thanksgiving/Christmas or just a backyard gathering with her family. Her children, eight (8) grandchildren and seven (7) great grandchildren are so thankful for her presence in their lives.
Memaw was preceded in Heaven by her husband Michael J Sabo Jr., parents Dorothy and Andrew Wason, her sister Rosalie “Rose” (Wason) Rapp, her brother James “Jimmy” Wason and her daughter Lisa Rene Sabo.
She is survived by her children Mike Sabo and his wife Patty Sabo, Tina (Sabo) and her husband Steve Lawson, Denise (Sabo) Mendoza and Brent Sabo, her grandchildren Michael Sabo IV, Raymond “Chris” Sabo, Ryan Vorderbruegge, Steven Vorderbruegge, Lesli Atkins, Raymond Grambow III, Joseph Mendoza and Ethan Sabo and seven great grandchildren.
She will be interred next to her husband at South Park Cemetery, 1310 North Main Street Pearland, TX 77581.
