Mrs. Eva Garza's Obituary
Eva G. Garza was born to Juanita and Guadalupe Gonzalez on February 8th, 1924 in Port Isabel, Texas. She returned to the Lord peacefully on June 25th to be reunited with her loving husband Benjamin R. Garza on what would have been their 69th wedding anniversary. Eva was the 3rd of 13 children and she was greatly respected by all.
After graduating from Port Isabel High School, she attended business school and began her working career for by a prominent judge in Brownsville. It was then that she met and married Benjamin R. Garza on June25th, 1950. They resided in Brownsville for 7 years, where they had many close friends and family. While there, they were blessed with three children. Benjamin Jr. Letty, and Hilda. After being transferred to Houston their fourth and final child John Garza was born.
Eva’s life revolved around raising her children, but she also spent many years as a 3rd Grade teacher at St. Christopher’s Catholic School, and later worked at the parish offices. She was currently a parishioner at St. John Vianney’s Catholic parish where she was active in prayer ministries, and volunteered at Joseph’s Coat as she continued her faith journey. She loved to cook, tend to her plants, and entertain family and friends. She travelled the world, but dearest to her heart was South Padre Island which the family frequently visited and celebrated many special occasions.
Eva is survived by her loving children: Ben Garza Jr. and wife Lisa, Letty Garza Hicks, Hilda and husband Ralph Rader, John Garza and wife Julia.
13 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren: Chelsea Gonzales-husband Daniel, daughter Autumn, Gabriella Garza; Andrea Jestice-husband Ryan, children: Olivia and Ford; Steve Hicks-wife Amber, daughter Ruby; Ashley Rudolph-husband Matt, daughters Evee and Hallie; Ralph Rader III-wife Bonnie, daughter Nora; Benjamin Rader-wife Hayley and son Benjamin; Rachel and husband Ryan Mooney; Matthew Rader-wife Caitlin, son Luke; Joe Garza, Emma Garza, Catherine Traub, and John Carlo Garza.
Eva is also survived by three siblings: Cata Hanna, Gloria Hagy, and Albert Gonzalez.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband : Benjamin R. Garza, parents: Guadalupe and Juanita Gonzalez, Siblings: Gonzalo Gonzalez, Esther LaBove, Rene Gonzalez, Santiago Gonzalez, Guadalupe Gonzalez, Miguel Gonzalez, and Angel Gonzalez.
The Family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Paulina Loera and Rocio Serna, for their loving care & companionship to Eva. We also wanted to recognize Seasons Hospice staff especially Nurse Rhonda Light and Charlene for their compassion and the wonderful care they provided.
