Eugene Long Sr's Obituary
Eugene Long Sr, affectionately known as Gene, a beloved father, grandfather, and true cowboy at heart. Born on January 1, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas, Gene was the youngest child of Arthur Long and Mary McAfee. He grew up in El Campo, Texas, alongside his five siblings.
Gene's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his country and his family. He served with honor in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Sergeant and earning several prestigious awards for his service. Following his honorable discharge in 1971, Gene moved to Houston, Texas, where he embarked on a successful career as a truck driver, working for reputable companies like Sexton Food, Men’s Warehouse, and Patriot Oil and Gas, where he eventually retired in 2019.
Beyond his professional achievements, Gene was a true cowboy who had a deep passion for horses, rodeoing, and trail riding. He shared countless adventures with his family and friends, creating cherished memories along the way. Gene also had a profound love for music, particularly zydeco, which brought him immense joy throughout his life.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Long and Mary McAfee, his siblings Christina Long, Genelle Ceaser, Lee Etta Brown, Ozella King, and Carl Ray Long, and his son Eugene Long Jr., along with three beloved grandchildren, Eugene Long III (Trey), Jeremy Mitchell, and Jessie Barnard Austin Jr.
Gene's legacy lives on through his loving daughters, Alicia Long, Ernesia Thomas, Elanda Long-Minger, and Rosie Austin (Jessie), as well as his cherished grandchildren, Jazmine Long, Eugenia Long, Eugencia Long, Fabian Austin, Shyann Minger, Cinsere Minger, Cliffton Minger Jr, Janesia Garner, and Troy Ned Jr.; along with several great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Although he has departed this life, his spirit continues to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of Gene's life will be held to honor his memory and the profound impact he had on everyone around him. May his adventurous spirit, love for family, and passion for life inspire us all.
