Mr. Ernesto Garcia Torres' Obituary
Torres
Ernesto Garcia Torres, 54, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, surrounded by family. Ernesto (Ernest) was born on May 22, 1953, the youngest of seven siblings, to the late Faustino and Roberta Garcia Torres, of Victoria, TX. He attended school and enjoyed his childhood years in Victoria before moving to the Houston area. Ernest worked for 14 years at Southern Pacific Railroad, proudly serving as brakeman, then as conductor, before retiring to pursue a career in nursing. He studied at San Jacinto College, where he earned a degree as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 1993. Most fondly known to his colleagues and to his patients as 'E.T.', Ernest worked for several years at the Harris County Hospital District's Ben Taub Hospital and Casa de Amigos Community Health Center, before finding his true calling in Home Health Nursing. A dedicated, compassionate, and uplifting nurse; he was privileged to care for the patients of several local agencies during the past 13 years, most recently Joy Home Health, Wisdom Home Health, and CNE Home Health Services. His patients were a source of great joy to Ernest, and he felt blessed to serve God through nursing. His patients and colleagues responded to his gifts of skill and genuine concern in a way that has formed lasting bonds between Ernest's family and their own. Toward his family, Ernest was always generous with his praise and boundless in his love. His devotion and patient guidance were a model to his children, nieces and nephews. He was a cherished husband, father, brother, son, and relative. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, Faustino and Roberta Garcia Torres, and by his brother, Jesse Torres. He leaves here, to honor his life, his loving wife, Roberta Wyse Torres; their children, twins Ernest Robert Wyse Torres and Emily Elizabeth Wyse Torres; sisters Estela Phillips, Genevieve Hinojosa, Delores Creager and Gloria Torres; brother Robert Torres; and all of their families; Bridgette Lynch Kohler and her family; and many friends. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude for the expertise and kindness of the many professionals who helped Earnest during his 3 month journey of faith through cancer treatment. 'As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you.'
