Ernest Martin Evans II's Obituary
Ernest Martin Evans II went to be with the Lord on April 1, 2020. Ernest II was born on February 19, 1995, to the loving parents Ernest & Sonya Evans in Houston, Texas. His siblings are Jamar, Faith, Emerald, and Ezekiel; furthermore, his beloved nieces and nephews are Brielle, Khaza, Rashad, Jeremiah, Amber, and Khamonni. His paternal grandparents are Charles and Lula Mae Evans, and his maternal grandparents are Earl and Ola V. Frelow.
Ernest II had many nicknames: Shaboo, Ern, E2, and E, but Erno stuck the most.
Erno was talented beyond belief. Besides being an amazing student, he was a brilliant athlete and a rising finance professional. Let me tell ya, favor ain't fair! Since birth, he was an energetic soul, always running around or playing with some type of ball. Who was once a small young boy participating in track pentathlons, Erno became a force to reckon with on the football field. Like his father, a former defensive player, his love for football ran deep. But this fierce commitment did not stop at athletics. In 2012, his athleticism and stellar intellect earned him admission to Dartmouth, a private Ivy League College.
His teammates will remember him for his help in securing the 2015 Ivy League Conference Championship and being a lively person to be around. His classmates, and many of you, probably remember how vocal he was about his way of thinking. I'm sure we all found ourselves debating with Ernest, and hearing him say, "Let's Google it!" Although this response became quite repetitive, he was rarely wrong and that further excited his arguments. We jokingly called him “tiger” whenever he got too aggressive during discussions, but deep down we loved his competitive nature. Whether in the classroom or during casual conversation, he was a great debater, a seeker of knowledge, and a hard worker that made the grind look easy.
Being the true money man he is, he graduated with an Economics degree in 2016. After finishing college, Ernest secured an impressive job at one of Warren Buffett’s Reinsurance firms. His business-oriented mindset pushed him to put work before play…but we all know he was no stranger to celebrating. He was the life of the party everywhere he went; hyping everyone up, making everyone feel their best. He charmed people with his wit and great sense of humor. And of course, he was always the best dressed. “Look good, feel good” was a phrase he made sure to incorporate in his daily life. His exquisite taste in watches and shoes caught the attention of others effortlessly. He was funny, stylish, and charismatic, but most importantly, he was a great friend.
What’s less well known about Erno is that he was artistically talented, and enjoyed drawing. During his childhood, he would draw basketball cartoons with his best friend Nelson Ayodeji and later continued these efforts by sketching throughout high school and college.
Beyond being smart, athletic and driven, Erno had strong morals and a heart of gold that led him to live a very selfless life. His Christian upbringing and strong personal faith had a huge impact on his ability to navigate through the world with a great sense of character. Everyone adored his kindness, his loving nature, his radiant smile, and uplifting spirit. He would give his last to anyone he knew or simply someone who crossed his path, but be careful, if you ask for his last chicken wing, he might reject you like Lebron at the rim.
Erno’s life was the perfect depiction of what it means to strive for greatness while spreading love in the process. He traveled the world, learned with the brightest, and played against top tier athletes. He was a natural born fighter, to say the least. After suffering a traumatic brain injury in June 2017, the odds were against him, yet once again he rose to the challenge. His miraculous recovery and morale left a legacy that motivated others to achieve the impossible. Although we feel he was taken too soon, his impact will live in our hearts forever. May we honor Erno by living a life full of adventure, filled with love, and guided by faith.
