Mrs. Earline Ola Goss' Obituary
Earline Goss passed away Saturday 12 May 2007 from complications of Leukemia and Alzheimer's. Earline was born in Houston, Texas 22 September 1924 to William Earl and Mollie Priest. Earline graduated from Austin High School in 1941 where she was the Mustang Keeper. In 1942, while attending a USO dance at the Corp Club, she met her husband of 63 years, Thomas M. Goss, Jr., a U.S. Marine then attending Texas A&M radio school. Upon his return from overseas they were married 21 September 1944 and following his discharge in October 1945, they moved to New York City where he resumed his business career with American Can Company. Earline was employed by Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital as medical secretary for a renowned eye surgeon. After her husband's transfer to Houston, Texas in 1960 Earline continued to raise their four children and later became employed as Assistant Secretary, City of Conroe, Texas, and later as secretary to UTMB, Galveston, Texas and finally at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston. Before her illness incapacitated her, Earline participated in LGA activities at BraeBurn Country Club, River Plantation, Galveston Country Club and Country Place Country Club. Earline is survived by her loving husband, Thomas M. Goss, Jr. and her children: Michael W., of Arlington, Virginia, retired Capt. U.S. Navy, now General Manager, Business Development, BAE Systems and his wife Brenda Goss with Latham & Watkins law firm; Gerald T. of Baton Rouge, LA, Vice President, A.G. Edwards and wife Devera Goss; Debra Ann Ruley of Austin, Texas, Legal Secretary at Vinson & Elkins, and her husband Mst.Sgt. Roy Barnard on active duty in Iraq; Thomas M. Goss, III, of Pearland, Texas who lovingly cared for his mother. Earline is survived by nine grandchildren, Amanda Lee Goss of New York City; Lt. Justin Goss, USN, Newport, Rhode Island; Melissa Ann Bridges of Austin; Brennan Thomas Ruley of Los Angeles; Hilary Julia Goss of Virginia; Alex Thomas Goss of New York City; Page Goss of Dallas; Blake Ruley of Austin and Matthew Goss of Baton Rouge; and one great-grandchild, Parker Stephen Bridges of Austin. Earline was a very loving wife, a great friend and mother to her children and grandchildren, and she will be missed tremendously by her surviving family who love her very much.
