Mrs. Dorothy Story Wetzel's Obituary
Dorothy Story Wetzel, age 100, died on October 21, 2014. Her daughters, Kathy Lorie and Martha Wetzel were with her at the time.
She was born on October 7, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois, to Gladys Myrle Beers and William Clay Story, and grew up in Bloomington, Illinois. Dorothy married Earl LeRoy Wetzel on March 28, 1942 and had three Children; Ann Wetzel, Martha Wetzel, and Kathy Wetzel Lorie. She is survived by her daughters Martha and Kathy, her grandchildren Rebecca Montgomery and husband Curtis, Lonnie Yates and Wife Melinda, and Alicia Yates; two great-grandsons, Christopher Yates and wife Nikole, and Ian Yates; and two great-great grandsons, Hayden and Hudson Yates.
Dorothy has touched the lives of many people in her travels through life, as a daughter, mother, wife and friend. She was very active in Garden Clubs where she lived and often did volunteer work with the local hospitals. As a military wife she traveled extensively, finally settling down after retirement in La Feria and Harlingen, Texas. Eventually she came to live with daughter and care-giver Martha in Charlotte, NC, and most recently, Pearland, Texas where she would be closer to most of her family.
The Family would like to extend thanks to the doctors and staff who attended to her needs during these last years, with special thanks to the caregivers and staff of Right At Home. She greatly enjoyed the company of the various sitters during the past few years.
Dorothy will be greatly missed but is surely catching up with all the family and friends that have gone before her. We have been blessed beyond measure with her presence.
