Mrs. Dorothy Irene Thomas' Obituary
Dorothy Irene White Thomas (Aunt Rene) passed away peacefully on November 23, 2011 at Windsong Nursing Home in Pearland, Texas. She was born in New Albany, Indiana on August 23, 1926 and spent most of her youth in Louisville, Kentucky. She graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Louisville and served her country as a U.S. Army nurse during the Korean conflict, stationed in Japan and Korea. She returned to civilian life and continued her nursing career until retirement at age 65, she then volunteered at a senior day care center. She was a member of Pearland VFW Post 7109 and served as Post Commander for two years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Buena V. and Clyde J. White, her brother, Lt. James L. White, her sisters, Pauline Enid Stofan, Kathleen Marie Poleo. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Gabriel {Leo} of Galveston, Texas. Nieces, Susan K. Poleo {Gary Hall} of Pearland, Texas, Roxane Gabriel Pyle of Houston, Texas. Nephews, Louis Poleo, Jr. {Terri} of Pearland, Texas, Leo [Chip} Gabriel III of Pearland, Texas, Kevin Gabriel {Pamela} of Galveston, Texas. Great nieces, Courtney Gabriel, Stacie Gabriel, Carson Pyle, Sara Gabriel, and great nephew, Austin Gabriel.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Windsong Nursing Home for their loving care and devotion and to Harbor Hospice for their care and comfort.
