Dorothy Ruth Burks' Obituary
We mournfully announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy Ruth Burks, 94, of Friendswood, Texas, on the 21st of November, 2022. She was born to Columbus and Rebecca Hargrove, on the 14th of March,1928, and as in life, Dorothy was surrounded by her beloved family as she transitioned into her afterlife.
Dorothy devoted herself to her family and is preceded in her death by siblings J. Clayton Cook (Allie Mae), W. Irvin “Bill” Hargrove, Abner M. Hargrove, George W. Hargrove, Annie Mae Kennedy (Leroy), M. Evelyn Riggs (Henry), Bessie M. Warzon (Felix), Glayds Skelton (Jimmy), life long friend Alice Olson, her daughter, JoLynn Brewer and son-in-law, Tommy Lichenstein, and survived by her two daughters Penny Lichenstein and Vie Denney and husband Wendell, her son, Jerome Barnett and wife Barbara, her grandchildren, Joseph Brewer, Carolyn Blake and partner Greg Partin, Diane Freeman and husband David, Randy Hall and wife Dayla, Dorothy Paredes and husband Isaac, Dell Denney and wife Tabitha, Jeffery Denney and wife Dani, and Amy Barnett, and her cherished great-grandchildren, Andrew Denney, Austin Denney, Colt Hall, Courtney Hatton, Faith Denney, Parker Freeman, Peyton Robey, Ryan Denney, Stella Freeman, Taylor Freeman, and Trace Hall.
Dorothy lived a full and vibrant life, she traveled all over the continental United States, loved researching her family genealogy, was a member of The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 490 for many years, Girl Scouts and The Red Hat Society. She enjoyed gardening, camping, sewing, collecting lighthouses, completing puzzles, kicking her heels up dancing, and just being the life of the party.
We express our heartfelt gratitude to those who supported and cared for Dorothy during this time, especially her caregiver Sharon Woytek and the staff of Spring Hospice of Sugarland who provided her hospice care.
We will miss her bright eyes, cheerful smile, laugh, witty humor and loving hugs dearly.
Services will be held at South Park Funeral Home, 1310 N. Main St. Pearland, Tx, 77581 on the 2nd of December, 2022, the following are open to the public, visitation at 10am, funeral ceremony at 11am, and burial at Noon.
Her pallbearers are Joseph Brewer, Randy Hall, Dell Denney, Jeffery Denney, David Freeman, Isaac Paredes and honorary bearer Greg Partin.
